Biamonti 170 – A few sketches that refer to the first bars of the andante from sonatina Opus 49 number 1. They are found in the Kafka miscellany of the British Museum, precisely on page 66 recto lines 1 and 2.

These are the first 7 measures of the Andante from the Sonatina op. 49 n. 1. They are written in beautiful calligraphy as if Beethoven wanted to make a copy as a gift or for the publisher and then abandoned the project; in fact, from the third line, Beethoven starts again with other sketches. Note the lack of all dynamic signs and slurs; perhaps the Master, when he wrote in good copy, began by writing all the notes and then added the other signs later? Even the signature could be original, not so, it seems to me, the title; note in the signature the use of French, the usual shortening of the surname (“Btvn”) and the “L” of the name in lowercase.
