Biamonti 248 – Sketches in B flat major, 1800.

Biamonti 248 – Sketches in B flat major, found in Landsberg notebook 7, page 35, lines 1 to 5 (which correspond to page 33 of the Mikulitz edition). There are two main drafts, comprising eight and six bars respectively, dating from 1800. Between these two sections, a third sketch (on lines 2 and 3) appears, which refers to the first intermezzo of the Rondo from the Sonata for Piano and Violin in F major, Opus 24. On the preceding page, there is a brief cue (just one line) for the Rondo itself. On the following page, there are sketches that can be attributed to the first movement of the Second Symphony.

These fragments are also found on page 37 of Landsberg 7; the first appears on line 1, and the second on line 5. Both are in B flat major and written in imperfect time: the first in 6/8 and the second in 3/8. Despite the difference in time signature, they could belong to the same piece. However, Mikulicz, in his analysis of the various fragments in this sketchbook, also labels them as “Unbekannt”, meaning unknown, as they cannot be linked to any other known music by Beethoven.
