It is found on page 177, lines 13–14, of the Landsberg 6 Sketchbook, better known as the Eroica Sketchbook. It is in G major and in 2/4 time; Beethoven writes “andante” at the beginning of the piece.

Rachel W. Wade, in her study Beethoven’s Eroica Sketchbook, curiously imagines it in G minor. Although Beethoven, as often happens, does not indicate accidentals in the key signature, it is unlikely to be in G minor since there is no F-sharp. More likely, it is in G major as indicated in the transcription by L. Lockwood and A. Gosman in their volume Beethoven’s Eroica Sketchbook – A Critical Edition.

Nottebohm, in his analysis of the entire sketchbook, only briefly mentions it (“zu einem Clavierstück” – for a piano piece). In their transcription, Lockwood and Gosman add three final notes in the left hand in parentheses; I preferred to omit them in the original version, adding others in the completed version.
