Biamonti 465 – Sketch for Piano, Grasnick Notebook No. 3, Sheet 21, First Page, Lines 1 and 2 (Dagmar Weise, page 97). Final months of 1808.

This sketch is preserved in Berlin at the Staatsbibliothek, within the sketchbook known as “Grasnick 3,” specifically on sheet 21r, lines 1–2. It is written in B-flat major and in 2/4 time. According to Dagmar Weise, who undertook the transcription and analysis of the entire sketchbook, this fragment may be associated with the Fantasia for Piano, Chorus, and Orchestra, Opus 80, particularly due to the close motivic relationship between measures 5–8 of this sketch and Theme 1 of the Fantasia.

A note of scholarly contention: Dagmar Weise’s transcription is presented, though the editor expresses reservations. Even under magnification, measure 2 appears to reflect a harmony of F major (dominant), whereas Weise interprets it as B-flat major (tonic). Both versions are provided so that each reader may form their own judgment.
