Biamonti 684 – Fragment of a Fugue, 1817

Biamonti 684 – Fragment of a Fugue, 1817. The original manuscript is lost. Nottebohm refers to it (Zweite Beethoveniana, II, pp. 158–166), as well as to the fugue sketches. The prelude is complete and consists of 37 measures, followed continuously by a few measures (Allegro) serving as an introduction to a fugue that was interrupted after four bars; the theme later reappeared in the Scherzo of the Ninth Symphony.

Here we reproduce the four measures of the fugue.
