Biamonti 699 – End of a Minuet.

Date: Between November 1817 and March 1819 Source: Nottebohm, Zweite Beethoveniana, Volume II, page 129. Beethoven wrote: “Zuerst Minuetto, Ende” (First Minuet, End);  and: “Adagio Fis moll oder…” (Adagio F-sharp minor or…)

These annotations appear in the sketchbook for the Sonata Opus 106, which contains numerous unused ideas and fragments from this period. The phrase “End of a Minuet” likely refers to a concluding passage, possibly intended for a dance movement or stylized interlude, though no complete minuet survives from this sketch. The mention of Adagio in F-sharp minor suggests Beethoven was contemplating a slow movement in that key, either as a contrast or alternative to the minuet fragment.
