Biamonti 702 – Fragment in B-flat minor.

Date: Between November 1817 and March 1819 Source: Nottebohm, Zweite Beethoveniana, Volume II, page 129.

This is an original and completed fragment, accompanied by Beethoven’s annotation: “Auch Könnte am ende Rondò moderato u. als Episode Fuge in B moll” (Also could be placed at the end: Moderato rondo and, as an episode, fugue in B-flat minor).

This sketch appears to have been intended for the second part of the Scherzo of the Sonata Opus 106, or at least considered as a structural or thematic alternative during Beethoven’s compositional process.
