Biamonti 754 – Unused sketch in C-sharp minor, 1819–1822 Notebook II, page 63. (Nottebohm, II page 463). No musical citation.

If it refers to the piano sonata in E major Opus 109, as Nottebohm believes, the date cannot be later than autumn 1820. (Artaria 197).

Nottebohm, in his volume Zweite Beethoveniana, page 463, cites this fragment as follows: “ferner (S. 63) einen wahrscheinlich ursprünglich zur Sonate op. 109 bestimmten Entwurf in Cis-moll mit der Ueberschrift: ‘nächste Sonate adagio molto sentimento moltissimo espressivo.’” [further (p. 63) a sketch in C-sharp minor, probably originally intended for the Sonata op. 109, with the heading: ‘next sonata adagio molto sentimento moltissimo espressivo.’] Indeed, Beethoven writes: “adagio molto sentimento moltissimo espressione.”

This fragment, though lacking musical citation, is notable for its expressive heading—suggesting a deeply emotional and lyrical character. If it was indeed conceived for Op. 109, it may represent an early idea for the sonata’s slow movement, later replaced or transformed. The use of C-sharp minor and the intensity of the phrasing (“molto sentimento moltissimo espressione”) point to a moment of introspective depth in Beethoven’s sketching process.
