Biamonti 818 – Further Sketches of Themes Possibly Related to a Preliminary Version of the Andante from the String Quartet in B-flat Major, Opus 130. February – August 1825 (Deroda, pages 95–96).
These are additional sketches following those listed under the previous number. They may have been conceived for a preliminary version of the Andante from the Quartet Op. 130. De Roda identifies at least four sketches possibly related to the Andante on the following folios of the De Roda Skizzenbuch: Folio 26-recto (staves 1–7); Folio 27-recto (staves 1–3); Folio 28-recto (staves 5–6); Folio 28-recto (staves 18–19).
There may be additional fragments on these pages that relate to the Andante. All sketches are written in pencil. Apart from the third, they are fairly legible.
Folio 26-recto, Staves 1–7
The first sketch is in ¾ time and begins with a “Vi= =de” (Biamonti 818b), which places its start on the sixth staff, then resumes from the first.
Folio 27-recto, Staves 1–3
A continuation of thematic exploration.
Folio 28-recto, Staves 5–7
Includes a sketch with a long, expansive melody.
Folio 28-recto, Staves 18–19
Features a sketch with a mysterious character.
De Roda writes:
“On page 53 there are two very interesting ones: the first for its long and broad melody, and the second for its mysterious character.” (Note: the first sketch is actually on folio 26-recto.)
At the beginning of one sketch, Beethoven writes: “zum 3te Quartette” (“for the third quartet”).
