Hess 200 – From the 25 Scottish Folksongs, No. 4. Copy: 29 I, 29 V. [The piece has alternative string parts to those in Op. 108 No. 4. There are, in fact, two early versions of the arrangement of this song. Copy: 29 I; owned by Anton Schindler, however. Mark Zimmer wrote about it: “The second version of the string part is even simpler than that of the final version. Beethoven evidently achieved the golden mean with the third version. The one published by Thomson (Op. 108 No. 4) was called ‘the best’ by Beethoven.”]
