WoO 50 – Two movements of Sonatina in F major for piano, 1788 – 1790, published in facsimile by L. Schmidt in the appendix to Beethoven – Briefe an N. Simrock, F. G. Wegeler, etc., Berlin, 1909; printed by W. Hess, Leichte Klavierkompositionen Beethovens, Zurich, 1947, and recently in the 9th booklet of the Supplemente zur GA., 1965. Bruers 305 and 314 – Kinsky Halm (WoO 50) Hess 53 Peters 14 – Biamonti 21.Schiedermair Pages 216/16: Second and Third Edition.
In the First Edition the piece was numbered 17 and number 16 included the First Movement of the Concerto in D major for piano and orchestra (published in the Supplement of the GA., 1888) which was later written by the Hungarian composer G. Rosler (Engel, Der angeblich Beethovensche Klavierkonzertsatz in N.B.J., 1925). The Autograph of the First Movement occupies the first page of the sheet referred to in the previous number and two bars of the second (lines 9/10, bars 1-2); the Second Movement (Allegretto, 26 bars) follows on the second page to the Kaplied (which occupies the majority of it) interrupted only by the two final bars of the first mentioned previously. Schiedermair calls these two Movements respectively “Sonaten-Satz und Allegretto-Entwurf”; The Kinsky Halm catalogue defines them as “Two movements of a Sonatina”; Prod’homme says that it is definitely a “Sonatina” and Bruers mistakenly believed that Schiedermair’s “Sonaten-Satz und Allegretto-Entwurf” is a different composition because the title is different.
WoO 50 is part of the “Research Becomes Art” project.
