Hess 66 – Second Version of the Allegretto in C Minor, WoO 53 (for Piano)
Second version of the Allegretto in C minor, from the piece that appeared in GA series 25, no. 299; 164 bars. [In Kinsky/Halm, p. 499, the first version is catalogued as WoO 53.] This version is unpublished and the autograph is found in the Grasnick 25 manuscript in Berlin. [Published by Hess in SBG, vol. IX, 1965, p. 17. According to A. Willem Holsbergen: “The biggest differences with WoO 53 are found in the second phrase of the trio and in the coda. At bar 26 a natural D denotes a deliberate contrast between the E flat and the D; However, the natural D is more likely to be the result of a mistake as it should be a D flat, as in the equivalent bar after the trio (bar 116).”]
