Works

A complete catalogue of Ludwig van Beethoven’s works: Opus, WoO, Anhang, Hess, Hess Anhang, Biamonti, Unvollendeten Werke, spurious and apocryphal works, and sketchbooks.

Preceded by a summary introduction, this is the largest section of the site: it comprises 11 sections, for a total of approximately 1,250 individual pages.

Genres

This section lists works written or drafted by Ludwig van Beethoven, divided by musical genre.

The page scans refer to the new 2014 catalogue of Beethoven’s works: Opus, WoO, WoO Anhang, Hess, Hess Anhang, Biamonti, Unvollendeten Werke, and Ohne Opus.

Articles and Essays

On these pages, you’ll find contributions—both published and unpublished—that collaborators at the Centro Ricerche Musicali Beethoveniane have made or intend to make to Beethoven research.

Some of these articles have been published in specialized journals, while others were created specifically for us. Contributors include Michel Rouch, Luigi Domenico Bellofatto, Graziano Denini, and Antonietta Cappelli. These articles are also available on the relevant pages of the website.

Anyone interested in contributing is welcome and can refer to our Contact page.

Bibliography

All books on the world of Ludwig van Beethoven, sorted by author.

This section contains the Gesamtausgabe and a selection of essential volumes that are freely available. Here you will also find our multimedia library: a collection of essays that directly or indirectly relate to studies on Ludwig van Beethoven’s work.

As the title suggests, you can read the text of these essays, consult printed examples, and listen to the music.

We are confident you will appreciate the fruits of a long and complex work—ours and that of other scholars—that updates and ideally concludes this type of Beethoven research, which began at the end of the 19th century.

Biography

Or the Breviario beethoveniano (Beethoven Breviary)  by Carlo Alberto Pagni.

The Beethoven Breviary by Carlo Alberto Pagni is a gift to the Music Research Center from his son, Marco Pagni Frette.

It is not a musicological treatise nor yet another biography of the Genius of Bonn, but a curious text, not meant to be read in one sitting, which will guide the reader through Beethoven’s music and the most curious aspects of his personality.
