Preceded by a summary introduction, this is the largest section of the site: it comprises 11 sections, for a total of approximately 1,250 individual pages.

AI Gallery

Beethovenian Faces and Emotions: an AI Gallery

A continuously evolving collection (since December 2025) of AI‑generated videos created from photographs and portraits of scholars, critics, musicians, and family members who have contributed to the understanding of Beethoven. The gallery transforms static images into dynamic testimonies, restoring presence and vitality to the protagonists of Beethoven research.

This experimental space brings together historical memory and contemporary technologies: not to replace reality, but to build a bridge between past and present. The videos are interpretive tributes that highlight the work of scholars and make the history of Beethovenian criticism more accessible, showing how tradition and innovation can dialogue to keep the composer’s legacy alive.

This section contains the Gesamtausgabe and a selection of essential volumes that are freely available. Here you will also find our multimedia library: a collection of essays that directly or indirectly relate to studies on Ludwig van Beethoven’s work.

As the title suggests, you can read the text of these essays, consult printed examples, and listen to the music.

We are confident you will appreciate the fruits of a long and complex work—ours and that of other scholars—that updates and ideally concludes this type of Beethoven research, which began at the end of the 19th century.

Biography

Or the Breviario beethoveniano (Beethoven Breviary)  by Carlo Alberto Pagni.

The Beethoven Breviary by Carlo Alberto Pagni is a gift to the Music Research Center from his son, Marco Pagni Frette.

It is not a musicological treatise nor yet another biography of the Genius of Bonn, but a curious text, not meant to be read in one sitting, which will guide the reader through Beethoven’s music and the most curious aspects of his personality.
