It is found in the Eroica Sketchbook, the Landsberg 6 Sketchbook, on lines 8–9 of page 177.

These are only two bars of arpeggios in D minor with repeated D notes in the bass. As often happens in Beethoven’s fragments, there are neither clefs nor accidentals in the key signature; the tonality is nonetheless expressed directly by the title of this fragment, which Beethoven writes at the beginning of the lines: “Sinfonia in d moll” [Symphony in D minor].

It is worth noting that the high notes of this sketch coincide with the text (“ver-dam-mung”) of the piece on the upper staff.

Nottebohm, in his volume Ein Skizzenbuch von Beethoven aus dem Jahre 1803, merely cites it as: “Ansätze zu einer ‘Sinfonia in d-moll’” [Sketches for a ‘Symphony in D minor’].
