Hess 76 – Sketch of an unknown cadenza for the Concerto in C Major, Op. 15
Hess 76 – Sketch of an unknown cadenza for the Concerto in C major Opus 15 – 1790. The autograph [SV 31] is on page 30 of the Berlin Beethoven Autograph (now at the Universitetsbibliothek Tübingen).
The cadenza is incomplete and consists of exploratory material that might have been intended as a performance improvisation or preparatory sketch. It relates to Op. 15, Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto in C Major, written in a style reminiscent of Mozart but already showing Beethoven’s emerging boldness and rhythmic drive. This sketch offers a glimpse into Beethoven’s creative process, especially his approach to virtuosic passages and cadential flourishes.
