Biamonti 16. Copy of a cello part from an unknown work (by Beethoven?), likely written by Beethoven himself, 1788. See previous number. (It is now thought to be part of the Cantata WoO 87). It is found in the Beethovenhaus in the Bodmer Collection (manuscript HCB Bsk 17/65c) on the same page as the song “Der arme Componist”, Biamonti 15. The writing is very clear and precise, suggesting it was a fair copy.
It is a piece in G major but begins with a dominant minim with a fermata, followed by another fermata; therefore, a cadenced beginning. The piece itself begins on the upbeat of measure II. The cello part begins with an accompaniment of eighth notes (bars 1-15); a counterpoint follows and then ends (bars 35-44) in the high register of the cello, ending with a long trilled high A of 2 full measures which concludes on a short G.
