Biamonti 98 – P.34. According to Prod’homme, a Liepmannssohn autograph catalogue of 21-22 May 1909 listed some pages containing a sketch of the song “Die Liebe” Opus 52 number 6 and other unfinished pieces: an Adagio for piano, followed by an Allegro, with this annotation: “the difficult thing is to smooth all this passage of the fingers, but it must make the effect as if it were played with a bow”; a Rondo in E flat; a sonata in the same tone; an Allegretto “don’t le sentiment rappelle la Sonate au clair de lune”.

It is in the Beethoven-Haus on page 4 of a bifolio from the Wegeler Collection (W 3) on lines 1-4. This bifolio from around 1795 contains several fragments including the one for the Lied “Die Liebe”, op. 52 n. 6; other fragments concern the Lied “Urian Reise um die Welt”, the Adagio and Allegro Biamonti 96, the Rondo in E flat major Biamonti 97 and the Allegretto Biamonti 99 (other fragments not listed here will be the subject of our further research).  Evidently Beethoven was thinking of a Piano Sonata in E flat major and had already devised some initial themes. This incipit of Sonata is already very detailed; only a few repetitions of repetitions of the left hand (measures 22-29) and the central chromatic scale (measures 18-20) are missing, but Beethoven indicates it with the phrase: “so fort herunter und wieder herauf”.
