This fragment is located in London at the British Library, specifically within the Pastoral Skizzenbuch (AD31766), on folio 50-recto, lines 1–2.
As Biamonti writes in the footnote to the sketches of the Pastoral Skizzenbuch:
“The notebook called the Pastoral, because it contains mostly sketches of the aforementioned symphony, is preserved in the British Museum, and was published in 1961 in printed reproduction, with extensive historical and critical notes and description and illustration of each page, by the Beethovenhaus, edited by Dr. Dagmar Weise. It also contains sketches of the two Trios for piano, violin and cello, Op. 70, and a few others of projected and unfinished works, or in any case left unused.”
The sketches of the Pastoral were also briefly discussed by Nottebohm (Vol. II, Chapter XVIII, pp. 252–254) and Shedlock (Musical Times, January 1893, p. 14 ff.).
The Pastoral Skizzenbuch was analyzed and studied by Dr. Dagmar Weise in 1957.
Biamonti does not comment on this fragment. Dr. Weise notes that throughout folio 50-recto there are some isolated stains, and that in the third measure a mark just below the two final hemidemisemiquavers could be interpreted as part of a diminuendo sign.
