Biamonti 622 – Pastorale in C major, 1815 Page 47 of the sketchbook (Scheide Skizzenbuch) (Nottebohm, Volume II, page 347). No musical citation.
We present here the original sketches, carefully transcribed by Graziano Denini, and a highly conjectural reconstruction by Albert Willem Holsbergen (thanks to the site undheardbeethoven.org).
The fragment is titled “Pastorale” and consists of a short passage in C major, written in 3/8 time, with a gentle, flowing character. It begins with a simple melodic line, possibly intended for strings or winds, and features a light accompaniment that evokes a rustic or bucolic atmosphere.
The sketch is brief—only a few measures—and does not appear to have been developed further. Its style and title suggest that Beethoven may have intended it as part of a larger work, perhaps a symphonic movement or a chamber piece with pastoral character.
