Biamonti 758 – Sketch “2te St” (Second sonata). Adagio, 1819–1822 Notebook II, page 76 (Nottebohm, II page 467). (Notebook II: Artaria 197)
It is located at the Staatsbibliothek in Berlin in the sketchbook Artaria 197 (Skizzenbuch), page 76, lines 3–6. It is in the key of F minor and, as Beethoven himself writes, a sketch for the second movement “Adagio” of a “Second Sonata,” specifically “for a coda.” For the same sonata, Beethoven writes on the previous page a sketch for the first movement (see Biamonti 757).
Note the notes in the second and third measures written in bass clef in a very low register.
This notebook is the second of three from the years 1819–1822, described by Nottebohm. Nottebohm dedicates the entire chapter (pages 460–475) to these three notebooks.
